Day 6, Scandinavian Extreme Winter Expedition

26 January 2016
by Peter Blazicek

Today, we have visited an open-air museum of urban history & culture.
It was like to enter into 1700s, 1800s and 1900s.as they relocated around 75 houses from all Denmark. We strolled down the narrow cobbled streets, courtyards, squares.. entered houses of craftsmen, tradesmen, school.. Everything was very authentic and informative. Everything was also in English. Well, this open-air museum belongs to the first in the world (founded 1909) and  as an attraction has been awarded three Michelin stars. No doubt why. Originally, we planned an hour , but stayed about 3hrs.

We rode to the Aarhus – harbor and got tickets to Odden. We came to Aarhus few days ago from Copenhagen crossing the famous Great Belt Bridge, but, on the way back we decided to save me (as a driver) and made a use from Mols-linien Catamaran ferry – which looks and drivers just breathtaking.
I’ve used lots of ferries in the past in Croatia (Jadrolinija) and they were good. But this one, reminded me some space shuttle. And, interior, like in Boeing 747 – just much bigger ;) We had a great buffet dinner and in about an hour we were about to “land”J It was very comfortable, just a pity it was dark already and we could not enjoy the views. As the advertisement says, it saves about 200km.
Another great day, we met with some locals as we needed some advice. I've started picking up first Danish words such as thank you, yes, no and street... ;) Danish's pronunciation is for me a new challenge ;). Just to pronounce the word "gade" ..street.. took me some time.

I noticed that the "bicycle-mania" is not only in the capital, but - everywhere. The biking culture is phenomenal and e.g. Copenhagen is officially the first Bike City in the world and also "the Best city for cyclists". Doesn't matter if it is raining, snowing, the age..They are just using the bike to/from work, shopping etc.
More than half of the members of the parliament use as a means of transportation - bicycle ! They have a goal for 2025: To become the first carbon neutral capital in the world.
