Day 4. Scandinavian Extreme Winter Expedition.

24 January 2016
by Peter Blazicek

We truly ejoyed the breakfast and the Dannish music in the background.
Time to get ready for the city tour. As our hotel was 5min from the most famous and most photographed sight, we headed there.
Little mermaid – this little statue erected here in   ... as a gift from brewer Jacobsen.
I’ve tried to get closer to have the best picture, slipped and nearly tried the ice cold water in front of 30 picture-taking visitors. I could have been the most photographed cursing guy, but, little mermaid saved me ;)
Afterwards, we walked along the coast until we reached Amalienborg palaces, the Danish great rococco architecture from 1700s.
There are four identical palaces now serve as the Royal winter seat of the Danish family.  In the middle an equestrian statue of king Frederik V facing the Marble church (Frederik’s church). We had a good timing and were here 10min before the changig of the guards. The Royal Life Guards officially.
They start at 11:30 from Rosenborg palace (well, the departure time of the guard depends. It can be 11:27 king’s watch, 11:30, lieutenant watch, 11:32 palace watch. March down the street and end up in Amalienborg at 12:00.
It was great to watch one police officer how he was managing the situation with the crowd (saying where we should stay etc). He was telling us jokes and answered all questions, with a friendly smile. He had a complete control of the situation, everybody liked and respected him.
Then, we went into the Marble church, walked to famous Nyhavn ....once a busy commercial port -  which i liked much. We had a lunch & tea break.
I really liked the old-world charm colourful houses, friendly atmosphere and classy restaurants / bars. We saw also the houses where immortally famous H.CH.Andersen used to live and created some of his masterworks.
We then walked on famous „Stroget“ shopping street, climbed Rounded tower (first tower i have ever climbed without a single stair. One of the very frequent questions from my travelers – Peter, how many stairs to this or that church tower.. They ask me very often.. Here, i would really surprised them saying, my dear travelers – 0.0 stairs ;) And a library & cafe in the middle. What a great tower ;).
We tried the train on the way to the hotel. Clean, top modern and on time. Actually, like everything in Denmark.
Tomorrow, we will be H.CH.Andersen as we will head towards Odense (his birthhouse + his house where he grew up). I can’t wait.
I must say i like the very friendly, very welcomed atmosphere here.
